Woodlands Long-Time HR Director Leaving for New Job

There are more than 500 employees at The Woodlands Township, most of whom were hired by one person: Human Resources Director Susan Welbes.

Now, after 22 years of recruiting, reviewing resumes and vetting candidates for the township, the face applicants first see in their orientation is bidding adieu to the staff she helped build. On Dec. 16, Welbes will say goodbye on her last day of work before beginning a new career with Travis County.

Welbes said she will not only miss the township which she has helped create, but also the family atmosphere and friendly faces she hired — some dating back two decades.

“I will miss the people, but also the community, the most,” Welbes said. “I have seen the community grow, and I believe it is one of the best in the nation. The people, I’m really going to miss them. The employees of the township are some of the best I’ve ever been honored to work with.”
