Pinterest Appoints Andrea Wishom As Its Board Member Amidst Allegations of Discrimination

Pinterest has appointed Andrea Wishom, president of Skywalker Holdings, as a member of its board, even while the Company faces allegations of racial and gender discrimination. This appointment comes a few days after the virtual walkout by the social-media company’s employees who are raising their voice against discrimination and pay issues at the Company. However, Pinterest maintains that Wishom’s addition to the board was not in response to the walkout; that it had been interacting with several candidates for a couple of months now; and that Wishom has been taken on purely for her expertise and capabilities.

On August 14, employees at Pinterest had organized a virtual walkout following a lawsuit filed by Francoise Brougher, ex-chief operating officer, Pinterest. The senior executive has alleged that she was terminated by the Company for raising her voice against gender discrimination by the leadership of the organization, which is dominated by men. Two other Pinterest employees, who were part of the policy team have also accused the photo-sharing website of racial discrimination and inadequate pay.

Amidst the staff unrest at the Company, Wishom will now shoulder the responsibility of helping improve the culture of Pinterest, where much innovation and improvement is required. She will also focus on helping the Company expand into content and media.

Wishom is the ninth member of the board of Pinterest. Not only is she the third woman on the board but also the first Black member.
