Engineering and construction major Larsen and Toubro (L&T) are preparing to hire women who have been on a career break for various reasons.
With its ‘Renew: Career Re-entry for Women’ program, the Mumbai-headquartered conglomerate aims to strengthen its diversity policies around bringing women back to the work floors irrespective of the reason causing a break in their careers, according to an official statement.
Women employees typically take a career break to raise their children or to care for the elderly and the sick. Also, a lack of support and flexibility at work coupled with disproportionate household responsibilities often makes it difficult for women to continue in their jobs. This became more evident during the pandemic when more women were estimated to have lost their jobs than men.
At the People Matters TechHR 2021 Conference, held in August, Rajiv Sinha, Head -Business Excellence, Corp HR, L&T, said that the company was undergoing several changes to meet the talent needs. Other than focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I), L&T is also leveraging technology to impart news skills to the employees to make them future-ready.
Sinha had said, “Technology has been the biggest differentiator, in not just work but also in their learning journey.
